A known Hollywood star is not free from legal problems and this is just the case for Tobey Maguire who had to resolve his poker problems due to a convicted felon. The main actor from the famous movie “Spider-Man”, agreed to pay a sum of eighty thousand dollars to try and solve some of his poker problems, which some testify that where worth over 300 thousand dollars. He received this money from an ex investor specialist who had already had his own troubles with the law.
If the law suit is approved by the court in less than a month, Maguire will be obliged to pay the sum of money to a company that has already been declared bankrupt. This company used to hand out credits for several reasons and Bradley Ruderman, who was an employee at that company, had stolen from several accounts to pay for his lifestyle. Now the company needs Maguire to pay this fine, to pay some of the other clients that they had. According to the famous movie actor, he and other important people did not know about Ruderman’s plan and they claim that they are victims too.
According to some valid documents, at least 12 of the 22 people who have had similar problems have been able to prove that they are victims as well. Howard Ehrenberg, who was the president of the company who is suing this group of people, claims that the amount stolen is at least one and a half million dollars. He also stated that the amount of money that is being charged to this actor is the same amount that is being charged to other members of the group. “He surely did not receive better treatment than the rest”, stated Ehrenberg.
Maguire’s statement says that he did not have anything to do with the plan of Ruderman and that he only played poker according to the rules they had established. He also stated that he preferred to pay this money instead of making this problem even bigger and having to end up paying even more money. The actor signed this agreement on the 22nd of November and the very next day, it was accepted by the loan company.
The company alleged that Maguire and the rest of the group did not have the right to earn any of that money, because they did not have the legal permits like luxurious casinos, hotels and other establishments. Playing for money in their private homes, is not something that they are capable of doing, according to this company and this is why they are requesting to get some of their money back. Maguire and the rest of the group still state that there was nothing out of the ordinary in these games and that they all played by their rules.
According to Maguire’s statement he lost over 150000 dollars to Ruderman, who is now convicted to a ten year sentence for stealing money over the internet, tax evasion and for fraud against the loan company. The 22 people in the group are currently having very similar legal problems, yet the better known are the actor and film director Nick Cassavetes. Ehrenberg said that he hopes that all of the cases will be solved before next July and many are also hoping the same.
This can only conclude that everyone is in danger of falling into the hands of a criminal and that if you are not careful, it can be very easy to lose part or all of your money.
